Warren Mott Booster Club Minutes
September 19, 2011
Meeting called to order at 7:01 by Debbie Mazur
Debbie welcomed those in attendance back for the 2011-2012 school year.
Dennis Piccin made a motion to accept the minutes from the May 16th meeting, with the correction of the spelling of Tom Egan’s name. Renee Lewandowski seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Tom reported the account balance as of 8-31-11 is $22,841.66. Leslie questioned the balance for “Mott Wear” and Tom explained it was because we have not yet made any money. Dennis Piccin made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report as submitted. Renee Lewandowski seconded the motion. Motion passed.
The Board met in July to review/revise the Budget for the 2011-2012 school year. It was decided to increase the Veramay Scholarship award amount to $1000.00 each (for a total of $4000). Kathy Maul made a motion to accept the change. Annette LeBelle seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Dennis reported that tickets and security are going well. He is looking for more volunteers, for football and indoor sports.
NHS has given approval allowing students to work the scanners used at the ticket booth. Mr. Noble will need a list of the students’ names.
Kathy Maul reported that the Ice Cream Social will be September 28th in the cafeteria. The Homecoming Dance will be on October 1, and the theme is “Michael Jackson”. She is looking for volunteers for both events.
Leslie had no news to report, but reminded everyone to let her know if they have something to add to the website. She also stated that she has the distribution list.
Kellye Fazio report that Schwin inadvertently gave our October Texas Hold’em dates to the Hockey team. Our next dates will be 11-1-11 to 11-4-11, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Sunnybrook Lanes. She is currently looking for volunteers.
The next dates will be 12-27-11 to 12-30-11 from 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
At the request of Chuck Vercellone, Terry Duperon from Mooco Moola came in to present a Restaurant Card fundraising idea. Cards can be sold for $20, $10 of which would be given to Warren Mott. The cards are worth $50 (via coupons printable from the Interntet) to be used at various restuarants. The card would have a Mott logo on it. Included in the $20 cost, the purchases/receiver would received 30 minutes of personal service: i.e weather conditions, driving directions, 411 use, homework help, ticket purchase, and more. Cards can be pre-purchased by the group, or purchased online. The pre-purchase minimum is 100 cards. It was decided to table further discussion until our next meeting.
Sue reported Boosters has 129 members, and received $385 in donations.
Renee reported she is till looking for volunteers. The Homecoming game is 9-30-11. She also needs help for Volleyball.
Mr. Martin welcomed returning and new parents. He presented “Blessings in a Backpack.” This program sends students in need home on a Friday with a backpack full of food. The student returns the empty backpack on Monday, and receives another full one the following Friday. $100 will fill one backpack all year. A bowling fundraiser will be held at 5 Star Lines on 10-1-11 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sue Trombley made a motion to donate $220 by purchasing six (6) tickets to the bowling fundraiser. Renee Lewandowski seconded. Motion passed. Sue also mentioned she went on the “Blessings in a Backpack” website and they accept donations of used backpacks.
The Parent Portal is up and running. Parents will need to re-register and get a new password for this school year.
ACT practice test will be administered on September 22.
Twelfth graders will be taking the ASVAB, which is an apptitude test to help determine a students individual skills and abilities. It will be administered by a branch of the military.
On November 21, students will be again taking the ACT practice test, as well as the Plan & Explore tests.
The Student Showcase for Senior Citizens will be at the admin building on September 20, 2011, to show the seniors what is going on in Warren Consolidated Schools.
The 9th graders will take the MEAP test on October 19, only for Social Studies.
The November 8th election will include a Special Ed Millage for Macomb County to offset the cost of special education. Cindy Ross stated the millage would be an increase of $70 per year for the average home, and would ultimately help all students in WCS.
On behalf of Mr. Noble, who was not in attendance, Mr Martin reported that the issues with the Highschoolsports.net website are being corrected.
Debbie reminded the group that at the May meeting an amendment
to the By-Laws was presented to allow for any office or chairperson position to
be split into a co-position. Dennis
Piccin made a motion to accept the amendement to the By-Laws. Chele
Nye seconded the motion. Motion
passed.
Dennis Piccin presented the idea of “Booster Points”. Parents who volunteer could earn points to be
used towards “Mott Wear” items, with a limit of one (1) item per school
year. Points would zero out in June and
begin again when school starts. Points
would be retroactive from the start of this school year. Further discussion was tabled until our next
meeting.
Chuck Vercellone suggested we contact other schools/organizations regarding Moocho Moola and see how it went for them. It was questioned whether we use this for Boosters, or offer it to another group in the school. Again, further discussion was tabled until our next meeting.
Debbie Mazur suggested we form a committee to review the By-Laws and make any recommendations for any necessary updates.
Sue Trombley, Annette LeBelle, and Cindy Kneebone volunteered to be on the committee.
Michelle Worthington reported that the Boys’ Cross Country team won their meet at Stoney Creek last Saturday.
Kellye Fazio reported that the Volleyball team won their first game, against Cousino.
All three football teams won their games last week.
