Warren Mott Booster Club Minutes
March 23, 2009
Meeting called to order at 7:09 p.m. by Brian White
Jamie Dunn made a motion to approve the agenda after adding Project Close Up from Mr. Carpenter, Biology supplies from Dr. Eldridge, and Parent/teacher Conference raffle from Ms. Neuhoff to New Business. Mary Guthrie seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Leslie Fountain made a motion to approve the minutes from the February 23, 2009. Renee Lewandowski seconded the motion. Motion passed.
The Booster checking account is currently at $17,998.63. Approximately $16,570.21 is allocated but not spent. Estimated Income is $15,250.00 with an estimated balance of $10,108.42. Renee Lewandowski made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report. Jamie Dunn seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Bill was unable to attend however extended his thanks to the all parents who have helped at Mott sporting events this winter season.
Helen is currently on a leave of absence. She is on the “Biggest Loser” on Tuesday nights (pink team/black team). She has left to go back to the ranch. We wish her good luck in her remaining weeks on the show.
The All Night Party information is on the web site. Anything that you want posted to the Booster site, please submit to any board member or directly to Ron Grobbel.

Judy was working the Texas Hold-em tonight. The Texas Hold-em dates are March 16 – March 18, April 16-22, and May 18-20. Shifts will be 5:00 pm to 2:00 pm. If interested in working, please contact Judy Hurt.
Maryanne reported that she is using a different email account and it seems to be working well.
Wendy thanked everyone who has helped at the various concessions. She will need help with the spring sports and passed out signup sheets. If anyone is interested in taking over this position, please contact Wendy. It was suggested that that would need to shadow her before accepting the position.
The 11th graders have finished the ACT and MME testing. If any 11th grade student has missed the tests, they need to take the make-ups as soon as possible. We need at least 95% of the students to have taken the tests.
Next year “Power School” will be used across the district. This will help parents be more interactive with grades and be able to access the most current grades, attendance, etc. Parents will be given an access code to view the most current and accurate information. WCS will be a test site for the MISD.

Athletic Director – Mr. Noble
Spring Sports started last week. Girls & Boys basketball won their League and were MAC champs. Boys swimming also won their league. This totals 4 sports took MAC champ titles this school year.
Veramay Scholarship – Need a chair to get out letters, collate, set up process and readers to give four $500 scholarships. Senior parents cannot be readers. Leslie Fountain agreed to chair. Donna Kiely, Maryanne Barsotti and Debbie Mazur agreed to be readers. 1-2 more readers will be needed.
Nomination Committee – We need someone to chair the nominations committee for the new board. Ron Grobbel, Judy Hurt and Wendy Haberski will not be returning next year. No one volunteered to chair the nomination committee.
Winning Futures – Jamie Dunn moved to table to next meeting the request for $1000.00. Mary Guthrie seconded. Motion passed.
Football – Tom Milanov requested $2100 for a Mac laptop and software which would allow the coaches and teams to look over film from their games and their opponents. This would allow them to look at plays, positive and negatives, highlights, etc. The software license is unlimited to provide access to all the coaches. Football has not asked for money from the Boosters in 6 years and provides the most money from any sport to the Boosters. Renee Lewandowski moved to approve the request. Leslie Fountain seconded. Motion passed.
Wrestling – Rich Cook, Asst. Wrestling coach for 5 years requested $634 for a Throwing Dummy. This would help the wrestlers practice throwing and work the upper body strength without risk of injury to other students. Students would be able to use this “cute” dummy this summer. They have not made a request in the past 4 years. Julie Cooper moved to approve the request for the $634. Chanda Parman seconded. Motion passed.
Maruader Strength & Conditioning – Shaun Tahrebandi has taken over for Scott Wooster who stepped down from the head Strength & Conditioning Coach. He requested $2596 for 4 Mastiff Deadlift/Trap Bar and $1196 for Dip Attachments plus shipping of $380 for a total of $4172.00. The weight room is used by over 500 students yearly. This apparatus would make it more efficient and provide a better foundation for our students working their hips, quads, gluts and provide compound joint exercise. The weight room continually needs to be updated. Carl Oberndorfer moved to table the request until the next meeting. Mary Guthrie seconded. Motion carried.
Project Close UP – Jason Carpenter gave fliers regarding the week long student experience of Washington D.C. which 5 students and Mr. Carpenter will be attending. The trip provides an up close & interactive experience for the students with the government offices and the workings of Washington D.C. He requested $2000 to be allocated as $400 for each of the 5 students. Total cost per student is approximately $1500 which pays for the flight, room & board, nurse and surveillance for the week. Renee Lewandowski moved to give $500 split between the 5 students. If the money is not used by a student it would be returned to the Boosters. Leslie Fountain seconded. The motion did not pass. Donna Kiely moved to give $500 for the Project Close Up program to be given to the 5 students. If a student does not need/accept the money the remainder will be divided by the other students. Carl Oberndorfer seconded. Motion passed.
National Guard Liaison – SSG Bryan John Millmine had $10,000 available for marketing to high schools for banners (3x6) paper laminated with anything you wish, however, the National Guard logo would be on the banner. They have give a ways for the All Night Party. The money can be used for clubs, sports, etc. as long as the logo is noted and it is approved by SSG Millmine.
Parent Teacher Conference Raffle – Ms. Neuhoff has requested $250-300 for Wii for a raffle for the completion of a survey at the conferences in April. The survey is a partial requirement of the school improvement/AYP. Gail Salyers moved to give a maximum of $300 for a Wii for the conference raffle. Jamie Dunn seconded. Motion passed.
Sports Liaison Reports
Bowling – Patty Kovacs
Closing up the season: Varsity Boys tied for 2nd place. Varsity Girls tied for 3rd. JV girls & boys took last place. Next year they will need someone to shadow the Kovacs since this will be their last year.
LaCrosse – Donna Kiely
Fundraiser at Big Boy at 14 Mile & Ryan on March 17th. Their first scrimmage was in Royal Oak and they won 7-8. Next week’s game will be in West Bloomfield. Donna thanked the booster club for the new balls. Cousino covered the entire cost of the jerseys. She is hoping that the shorts can be purchased through the fundraiser.
Wrestling – Gail Salyers
Dan Salyers lost in the regionals. He took to 12 in medals.
Girls Basketball – Renee Lewandowski
The varsity won the MAC, however lost in regionals.
Boys Baseball – Jeanette Kinaya
During spring break there will be a tournament with 36 schools at Kite Monroe, Sterling, Cousino & Mott.
Swimming – Julie Sroka
Ethan Sroka took 1st place in 4 events during regionals.
Julie Sroka reported that there are no updates yet on revising the bylaws.
