Warren Mott Booster Meeting Minutes September 20, 2004

Call to Order: President Bonnie Vettraino at 7:05pm.

Minutes: Secretary - Vickie Kondziolka: The minutes of May 2004 were distributed and reviewed. Minutes were accepted as written.

Treasurer's Report: Treasurer - Sue Crile: There was a correction to the amount of concession seed money, it should state $450.00. We received a check from Tonerinx for $101.75, and a check from Schwan's for $61.86. We contributed approximately $12,000.00 last year to all clubs and sports that requested help. We have applied for exempt status as of August 29th, it can take up to 6 months to be notified. We will not be 501C3 until accepted.

President - Bonnie Vettraino: Bonnie thanked all the people who came to the meeting. She reminded everyone to sign in and fill out a membership form if they hadn't done so. We are in need of a Health Council representative. Anyone who is interested needs to contact Bonnie.

VP Academics - Nancy Brown: Nancy passed sign up sheets for the Homecoming dance. Volunteers were needed for various locations during the evening and also for decorating. The drive in movie is on September 27th and the ice-cream social is on September 29th.

VP Communications - Steve Kranson: Steve welcomed everyone for coming to the meeting. The contract with Tonerinx has been renewed. The bin will be located in the Secretary's office for now. We will be starting a paper-recycling program with Abitibi; Paula Peters will be speaking about this tonight. Please sign up for the Yahoo group, it can be reached through our website www.warrenmottboosters.com.

VP Academics - Garry Wolff: Garry thanked everyone who has worked at the games. So far we have taken in $1306 for the 50/50 raffles. He passed sign up sheets around for upcoming games.

VP Fundraising - Mary Herzig: Lynn DiBartolomeo will be helping Mary with the fundraising. The Indian Fruit sale may not happen because of the hurricanes. She is in the process of trying to find other fundraisers. We still have our holiday ornaments sale at conferences and the staff/student games to bring in money. Schwans has not responded to calls or faxes concerning their renewal with Mott. We will be participating in Burger King night at the 12 mile and Dequindre location. Sports wraps still need to be sold.

Membership - Debbie Willard: Debbie collected membership forms, which were turned in tonight. There was some confusion over whether they should have been turned in tonight or previously at student registration. Debbie asked for e-mail addresses to be added this year in order to remind people of upcoming booster meetings. You must be a registered member in order to vote. Bonnie waived this for tonight because of the confusion over the membership forms. Everyone who has turned in a form tonight and is present will be allowed to vote. This is only for tonight. Membership is at 87.

Concessions - Jan and Fred Slosek: Jan is asking for $200.00 to purchase a TV for the concessions room so that they can monitor the games, and also for those workers whose children are participating in the games. Mr. Adams said that he would look into getting them a TV, possibly an extra from the school. He would let Jan know the outcome in two days.

Special - Abitibi Paper Recycling, Paula Peters: This company will provide a bin for us to deposit paper items. (Newspapers, magazines, shredded paper ) . Papers bundled in plastic bags will be accepted. No phone books or cardboard. They will pay us by the tonnage. This will be a community drop off point. Currently they have over 300 accounts. She needs to set up a meeting with a board member and Mr. Adams to start up this program. We should be able to have the bin delivered within the next month. Possible location is the parking lot outside of the annex, this may change. We are encouraged to advertise at local businesses and set up containers for paper recycling.

Administration - Principal Pat Adams: Construction is progressing according to schedule. All teachers are now located in their correct classrooms. Hopefully construction should be completed by January. The Homecoming dance will be held in the auxiliary gym this year. The amount of students attending will have to be limited to approximately 800 because of the area in which the dance is being held. We cannot accommodate as many students as last year. This poses a security and safety hazard. Mr. Adams is asking for more parent volunteers this year to oversee the dance. The Boosters may be asked for more funding for clubs this year due to the $5000.00 fundraising cap that is being placed on sports. This is a district wide mandate. There have been too many problems in the past with sports fundraisers, i.e.. students going door to door, no accountability from coaches as to budgets and expenses, and no individual student accounts. The district memo outlining proper procedures regarding fundraisers will be placed on our website for parent's information. There has been some trouble with athletic busses recently. Parents expressed their concern over lack of transportation for their students. In order to save money, there may not be weekend or holiday bus transportation available. There was some confusion over other students transporting each other to and from sporting events. Coaches need to have a written note signed by the student's parent in order to let them leave their event with another parent or student. Students driving students is frowned upon for safety and legal issues

Request - Garry Wolff: Garry requested $420.00 for 8 headsets to plug into the radios that Booster security is using. You cannot hear with the radios alone. There is a tendency to pick up outside conversations. Vivian Opsasnick made a motion to give Garry the money for the headsets; Julie Sroka seconded it. Everyone voted and the motion was passed.

K-Mott - Coach Wright: The store is located in the teacher's lounge for now. He is encouraging students to purchase the Mott shirts and sportswear to show their school pride. Profits from the store sponsor all school activities, not just sports. He will be selling fall sports programs with the student's pictures inside for $2.00 each after the meeting.

Committee Reports - Sharon Ouvry Senior All Night Party: The first meeting will be held on September 27th at 7:00pm. Sharon needs as many parent volunteers as possible. Junior parents are also welcome. She is in need of committee persons. No one who volunteers will be turned down. The increase in the amount of ticket prices has made it possible to eliminate the amount of fundraisers needed this year. Request from the band to sponsor a $100.00 hole for their golf outing this Saturday at Sunny Brook golf course. Vickie Kondziolka made a motion to give band the $100.00; it was seconded by Debbie Willard, voted on and passed.

Meeting Adjourned: 8:45pm

THE NEXT MEETING IS NOVEMBER 15th IN THE MEDIA CENTER.
