Warren Mott Booster Meeting Minutes February 28, 2005

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:04pm.

Minutes: Secretary - Vickie Kondziolka: The minutes of November 15, 2004 were read and reviewed. Jeanne Egan made a motion to accept the minutes, Pam Cochran seconded the motion, all were in favor and the minutes stood approved. Anyone interested in Vickie's position may contact her.

Treasurer's Report: Sue Crile: The IRS requested more information from the board to establish the Boosters as 501C3. The board members met and supplied the requested information to the IRS to complete our application. We will need to amend the verbiage pertaining to the articles of incorporation to our by-laws, once our application is accepted. Sue also contacted the board members during winter break to ask for an $80.00 donation to place an ad for "Bye Bye Birdie". The treasurer's report was reviewed, Pam Cochran made a motion to accept, Debbie Walsh seconded the motion, all were in favor and the treasurer's report stood approved. Anyone interested in Sue's position may contact her.

VP Academics - Nancy Brown: Nancy thanked all those who helped with the Snowcoming Dance. It was a success and ran smoothly. Mr. Mutchler was able to write the boosters a check to reimburse us for the snacks and pop from Leadership.

VP Athletics - Garry Wolff: Garry thanked all those who have been working at the sporting events. He passed a sign up sheet for track concessions, there will be much help needed. Garry acquired an autographed Ben Wallace Piston jersey for raffle. The Volleyball team will have its end of the year banquet on March 14 at the Sterling Inn. They finished with a 17 -11 record. We will receive money from the district for supplying security at our athletic events. We need to supply at least 4 people to qualify for this money and at present we have more than enough volunteers.

VP Communications - Steve Kranson: Tonerinx continues to do well as does the paper-recycling program. Steve's position will need to be filled for the upcoming school year. Anyone who is interested needs to contact him.

VP Fundraising - Mary Herzig: The Staff/Student basketball game brought in $786.00 for the booster club. The paper recycling has been picked up three times. We may place an ad in the Macomb Daily to advertise this program. Anyone interested in Mary's position may contact her.

Membership - Debbie Willard: At present we have 97 members.

Administration - Mr. Adams: Mr. Adams thanked all those who volunteered to make the Snowcoming Dance a success. He also thanked those who have been working security for the athletic events. The Juniors will be taking the MEAP tests in April. A schedule was mailed home in the newsletter about alternate start times for the other classes. We are finishing up construction. The cafe will offer its new food options in increments over a period of a month to extend to full service. The "rumor" about a closed lunch period is exactly that.....a "rumor". Seniors are still able to leave the school at lunchtime. An Open House is being tentatively scheduled for sometime in April. All Alumni will be invited. The Boosters may possibly use this as a fundraising event with a coney night. This will need to be cleared with Food Services and also the Mott Head Cook. We will be looking for volunteers to run this. Questions arose concerning the conflicts with sporting events and school dances, also with Senior Graduation. Mr. Adams said that certain dates are locked in a year in advance. There is no easy answer as to what event to tell your child to participate in. These are personal choices as to what is more important in your child's or your opinion. There is a possibility that the schedules of golf, volleyball and girl's basketball seasons will change next year. We are the only state in the US to have girl's basketball in the fall.

New Business: President - Lynn DiBartolomeo: We are still in need of a Health Council representative. We will be adding new verbiage to our by laws concerning our 501C3 status. Lynn thanked everyone for their participation in school events. We need as many parents to help out as possible. Everyone's ideas are welcome. There will be many positions to fill for next year's Booster board. Lynn asked Secretary Vickie Kondziolka to explain about the nomination procedures in March and April. Vickie explained that nominations would be accepted for all board positions in both March and April. Nominees will be given the opportunity to accept or refuse the nomination for office. Nominees must have actively supported the activities of the club and regularly have attended meetings. Elections will be held by a secret ballot in May. This possibly is the last year that there will be a VP of Fundraising. An amendment will be made to the by laws to replace this position with a VP of Concessions because it is such a huge responsibility which lasts year round.

Girl's Softball - Coach Vitale requested $570 for 15 sports bags for the Varsity Softball team. The old ones are very worn and ripped. They have done some fundraising to help out with costs. The Junior Varsity team will have to use the old bags. After much discussion by the members present, it was decided that both the Varsity and JV teams should have their bags replaced. This would be 30 bags at a cost of $1140.00 Debbie Walsh made a motion to grant this request, Julie Cooper seconded it, all were in favor and the request was approved.

Wrestling - Coach Lovas requested $610.00 for 35 sweatshirts. The students will keep these shirts. They have already run out of their fundraising money when they purchased polo shirts. A motion was made by Wendy Haberski and seconded by Laura Bielski, all were in favor and the request was approved.

Old Business: Coach Wooster informed those present that $960.00 which was allocated for sports conditioning equipment 2 1/2 years ago has been used to purchase a kneeling leg curl machine. Approximately 385 students use the training room daily for aerobics, strength training and sports conditioning.

Committee Reports: Senior All Night Party, Sharon Ouvry reported that all is going very well. Everything is almost done for the event.

Veramay Scholarships: Vickie Kondzioka reported that there were 172 possible applicants this year. The application packets will be available on Friday, March 18th in the counseling center. All completed applications must be in no later than 9:00am on Friday, April 8th. A sign up sheet was passed around for those interested in reviewing these applications. Five volunteers are needed. You may not have a senior student this year. No names will be listed on the applications to insure anonymity and fair judging. All students are assigned a number. The top four highest scores will win a $500.00 scholarship each. They will be notified in May.

Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:05pm.

The next meeting will be on April 18th at 7:00pm in the cafeteria.
