WARREN MOTT MARAUDERS BOWLING CLUB
This past Wednesday, December 4, 2002, saw our varsity and junior varsity
teams continue their drive for the top spots in their respected divisions.
The boys' varsity showed their stuff by combining
for back-to-back 200 games in the baker match up against archrival Warren
Cousino, shooting 204 and 278 for a 482 totals. Both the 278 and 482
are tops for scores reported in the state for baker team competition.
The boys did not stop there as they continued to show why they finished
second in the state finals last season with some great scoring. Senior
Chris (Shaggy) Lepkowski posted a season high 256 with Junior Paul (Lefty)
Narlock a pin behind with a 255 game. Junior Justin (Hammer) Neiman
continues to build on his league high average shooting scores of 203
and 246 to increase his average to 224. Justin's 279 game and 514 two-game
totals are high in the state for individual performances in the early
season reporting. Also showing up in the top ten for individual performances
are Chris Lepkowski (256 game - 10th place) and Senior Jon (Smokey)
Kennedy (484 series - 3rd Place) The boys continued to hold down the
top spot with a 3-0 record defeating the Patriots 27-3.
The Girls Varsity team also remained unbeaten
as they too came out victorious over the Lady Patriots from Cousino
by a 22.5-7.5 score. The ladies were led by sophomore Lindsay (Lefty)
Felix who shot 187 and 171and by sophomore Jessica (Wild Child) Tyler
who shot a fine 193 game. The girls team is also getting their fair
share of state-wide attention posting the top baker game score (186)
and the top baker game series (349) so far this season. They also show
up in the top ten three different times for team games shot, with the
highest being 5th place (814). Individually, Jessica Tyler has the 10th
best score shot (211) as the ladies try to maintain their hold on first
place this season.
The Boys Junior Varsity team had a tough match
versus another undefeated team this week, the Cougars of Dakota. After
starting strong by winning the two game baker formats, the Junior Marauders
held on for a 15-15 tie with Dakota. This keeps Warren Mott in first
place and still a half game ahead of Dakota. Warren Mott was paced by
a fine performance from Sophomore Mike Kusmierz who shot scores of 193
and 178 to pace the team. Sophomore Jason Provencher chipped in with
172 and 178 games while Senior Steve (Road Dog) Rhodey came off the
bench and shot a nice 173 game in the second game. The boys junior varsity
has posted state level scores in team baker (180 Game - 6th place /
329 Series - 5th place) as well as in the team match scores (865 Game
- 8th place / 1697 series - 7th place.) Junior Kris Smith has posted
the 10th best individual score this season with a nice 208 game.
The Lady Junior Varsity team continues to show
steady improvement. Paced by Junior Erika Wagner (136-125) and Freshman
Veronica Wineski (136-125) the ladies rolled to their second win of
the young season and now sit tied for second place in the division.
By the way, the ladies are bowling against the boys in the junior varsity
division, watch out guys! The girls' junior varsity has posted top scores
for the state in numerous categories. Due to the light turnout of girls
junior varsity teams in the state they will have an excellent chance
of moving on to regional competition later this year, should they continue
to show the types of team work and improvement they have displayed.
They have the top reported Girls Baker score (147), Baker series (256)
and they are listed in second place in team game scores with a 611 game
and 1156 series. Individual honors go out to Freshman Veronica Wineski
(157 game - 2nd place) and Junior Erika Wagner, who just started bowling
this year (136 game - 9th place). The ladies also hold three of the
top ten spots for individual series with Veronica Wineski (276) in 2nd
place, Junior Jessica Biernacki (269) in 5th place and Erika Wagner
(261) in 7th place. Go get them ladies!!!!!
Our next meet will be on Friday, December 13, 2002 at
Sterling Lanes (14 Mile and Schoehnerr) beginning at 3:45PM. Please
come root our young bowlers on to another Marauder victory and show
your support for Warren Mott High School.
P.S. Just a side note, the Michigan High School Athletic
Association has voted this past Friday to award bowling as a varsity
sport beginning next season. We do not know all the details at this
point but they will be forth coming in the near future. If you want
to see this become an accredited sport in Warren Consolidated Schools,
please contact your schools athletic director and let your voices be
heard. We will need all the help we can get to make this a good beginning
to an already successful endeavor.
