Warren Mott Girls Varsity and
Junior Varsity Dominate Divisional Singles Competition
By: Assistant Coach Jerry
Tarabek
February 29, 2004
This past Thursday,
February 26th, 2004, the Warren Mott varsity and junior varsity
boy's and girls teams competed in their divisional singles competition
at Pampa Lanes in Warren. All the teams came in with very high
individual hopes for the event and some really came through.
The ladies seemed to be better adjusted to the lane conditions
however as they took five of the eight medals available in the
competition while the boys came close but came up empty.
The varsity girls
competition saw varsity team captain Jessica Tyler roll a 210
game in route to a 556 series and a share of the top singles
championship with Brandi Spanos of Warren Woods Tower. This
makes the second year in a row that Jessica has on the singles
competition, winning last season at Rosebowl Lanes in Roseville.
The varsity girls did not stop there as Veronica Wineski rolled
a nice 527 to take home third place this year.
The girl's junior
varsity had an even better day than the girls' varsity team
as they took three of the four medals in the competition. Courtney
Sitko, who was willing to have her complete style and mechanics
to bowling changed ten days previous to this competition by
coach Tarabek, had it pay off as she rolled a 448 series to
capture the ladies junior varsity title for 2004. Nicole Bowmer
was not to be slighted as she rolled a nice 408 series to finish
in second place and finishing in fourth position, and probably
the most surprised of the winners, was junior varsity team captain
Erika Wagner who shot 396 for her three game series.
The boys did not
fair as well as the ladies but Damon Betterton did come in with
a fifth place finish, just out of the medals, on the junior
varsity side. Jeff Beyer of Chippewa Valley had the hot hand
for the boys' varsity side as he shot a spectacular 290 game
and finished with a 758 series to take the top spot. Ryan Cathey
of Warren Cousino finished second with his first ever 700 series,
shooting 716. Andrew Brunner of Sterling Heights took the boys
junior varsity title rolling 638 while Chad Prytula of Warren
Woods Tower finished second with a 624 series.
Congratulations
to all the winners and best of luck in the upcoming varsity
state championship competition.
