Warren Mott Marauders Capture Two Division Titles

By: Assistant Coach Jerry Tarabek
February 15, 2004

This past Friday the Warren Mott Boy's Varsity and Boy's Junior Varsity teams captured their respective divisional team titles. For the varsity team it was their third straight division crown and the boys junior varsity won its second straight title. The girls varsity team which had won the title last year finished in second place behind Warren Cousino.

The boys' varsity capped their season with a resounding 29-1 victory over Warren Cousino. Another strong performance from senior Keven Beasley (221 and 414) and senior captain Paul Narlock (215-222) and enough help from freshman Tim Wilczek (199) and senior Kris Smith (181) secured the win and give the gentlemen a 7-1 record for the season. Next up will be the singles competition at Pampa Lanes were we will be looking to crown a divisional singles champion, hopefully from Warren Mott.

The Boys' Junior Varsity team completed their undefeated season by beating up on the Warren Mott Girl's junior varsity team 29-1 and finish the season at 7-0-1. The one point they gave up was a match play point as senior captain Erika Wagner shot a 165 game to beat Bryan Cadavid, who shot 160. It was a nice gesture by Bryan to let Erika win a point for the girls (Ha-Ha) but his teammates sure won't let him forget it. Patrick Griffin continues to improve week after week and shot a season high 243game and 432 series. Also showing no signs of backing down was freshman Kyle Kovach who improved on his second leading average by shooting 237 and 204 to bring his average to a crisp 202. The boy's next challenge comes from all the other junior varsity teams in the state as they move forward to Saturday and Sunday, February 21st and 22nd in Waterford for the State Junior Varsity Championships, where they are the defending State of Michigan champions.

The girl's varsity team shot season high Baker scores with a 221 game and 409 series as they established themselves quickly against the ladies from Sterling Heights. The Lady Marauders needed a win today and help from Warren Woods Tower, who were bowling league leaders Warren Cousino, if they had any shot at a share of the division crown. The girls did their part as they won 19 of the 20 match play points to defeat Sterling Heights 29-1 and finish with a very good 6-2 record. However, that record was only good enough for second place as the Lady Patriots from Cousino won their match and their first division crown. The Lady Marauders shot very well as a number of them set personal highs for the season as well as establishing new team high with a 986 game and 1861 series. Junior captain Jessica "Wild Child" Tyler shot a fine 215 game, freshman Jessica Shovan chipped in with a 222 game and a 379 series, junior Nikki Wilczek came up big with a 201 game and 395 series and senior Jessica Biernacki came off the bench the second game to shoot a fine 194 game. The girls will now take on the challenge of the divisional singles crown with hopes of bringing home a champion there.

The girl's junior varsity, as previously noted, lost to the boy's junior varsity 29-1. Erika Wagner, the righty turned lefty, seems to be peaking at the right time as she came through with a 165 game and 301 series. Kristy Jorgenson had another steady performance as she rolled games of 139 and 137, Nicole Bowmer shot season highs with a 163 game and a 311 series. The girls finish 2-6 in the division but ahead of the other girl's teams in the division. They also are headed to the Junior Varsity State Tournament next weekend in Waterford to test their abilities against the rest of the girls teams in the state.

Also at this time I would like to make mention of the graduating seniors we have on this year's teams. As the season is winding down these folks have helped solidify and lead our teams into division, regional and hopefully state competition and done so very well. These folks will be greatly missed next season but their contribution to the teams will last for years to come. Please help me acknowledge and grant good fortune to Paul Narlock (Boys Varsity Captain), Richard Kruk (Boys Varsity), Keven Beasley (Boys Varsity), Kris Smith (Boys Varsity), Jessica Biernacki (Girls Varsity), Jessica Ludeman (Girls Varsity) and Erika Wagner (Girls Junior Varsity Captain).

Best of luck to all of our seniors, and the rest of the team members, as they move forward to represent Warren Mott High School in the regional and state competition in the inaugural MHSAA Bowling season.
