Warren Mott Boys Win Inaugural Tri-County Invitational Meet

By: Coach Jerry Tarabek
February 2, 2003

The Warren Mott Boys Varsity team completed the day on Sunday as they took the championship in the inaugural Tri County Invitational Bowling Tournament. Teams from all over the region, as well a team from Grand Rapids area, competed in a grueling test of endurance at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights, Michigan. After qualifying tied for fourth position with Utica Eisenhower, last years state champions, the Warren Mott Boys team put on a bowling clinic as they began their climb to the number one spot. In the first match, they faced a very good Catholic Central team that pushed the Marauders to a deciding third game before the boys captured the win. The boys next faced Troy Athens who had just knocked Sterling Heights Stevenson out of the competition. With a couple of fine games, the boys varsity team disposed of the boys from Athens in two games straight. The next match, the semi-finals, would be against Macomb Dakota, who bowl in the same division as Warren Mott. Dakota had beaten up on the Mott team earlier in the qualifying round so the Marauders had something to prove and they did just that. Shooting a couple more 200 games, Warren Mott sent Dakota to the consolation game as they moved on to the finals. In the finals they would face the team from Grand Rapids, Hudsonville High School. Hudsonville had qualified in the 16th and final position but they took advantage of their opportunity to dispose of the number one seeded Henry Ford II in the first round and then knock off the defending state champs from Eisenhower in the semi-finals. Warren Mott was confident but also knew that Hudsonville was bowling very strong and consistent games. The Marauders opened the finals with a vengeance as they threw the first 6 strikes in route to a fantastic 278 game. That seemed to take some of the wind out of Hudsonville but it was not over yet. The Marauders started game two determined to only make it a two game match as they posted a 207 game and win the match and the championship trophy. Team members Jon Kennedy, Brian Lake, Justin Neiman, Chris Lepkowski, Paul Narlock and Richard Kruk all received their individual trophies and the coach Jerry Tarabek accepted the traveling team trophy.

Congratulations to all the members of the Warren Mott Boys Varsity team and good luck the rest of the high school bowling season.
